Nairobi, July 23, 2018- This afternoon, Principal Secretary, State Department of Planning, Dr. Julius Muia met a team from the NEPAD Agency, which was led by Symerre Grey Johnson, Head of Regional Integration, Infrastructure and Trade.
The team is in the country for a two day mission during which it will meet various Development Finance Institutions which include African Development Bank, Development Bank of South Africa, and Trade and Development Bank. The aim of these meetings is to develop work stream for the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA). A key consideration will be the selection of 3 key project components of the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor for financing.
The Principal Secretary welcomed the team to the country and gave a brief history of the LAPSSET project, which is anchored on Kenya’s Vision 2030. He further commended the resource mobilization efforts by the Agency towards financing of this transport corridor, which is expected to open up two thirds of the country’s land mass.
Earlier in the day, the NEPAD Agency officials who were accompanied by their Kenyan counterparts led by the National Governing Council Chairperson Prof. Michael Chege and NEPAD Kenya CEO Mr. Daniel Osiemo, had visited the LAPSSET Secretariat where deliberations were held with Director General, Mr. Sylvester Kasuku and later made a courtesy call on Mr. Andrew Kamau, Principal Secretary, State Department of Petroleum who briefed them on the current status of the crude oil and the petroleum products pipelines.
