In a ground-breaking move towards fostering good governance in Kenya, the NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat is successfully undertaking the first phase of dissemination of the National Governance Report (NGR) for Kenya.

The dissemination began in Kajiado County and was officiated by Mr. James Muhati, the Principal Secretary, State Department for Economic Planning. In his remarks, the PS noted that the National Governance Report for Kenya, launched in September 2023, stands as a testament to the country’s commitment to self-assessment and improvement. One of the significant achievements highlighted in the report is the successful democratic elections and peaceful transition of power.

Additionally, he emphasized that the NGR and County Peer Review Mechanism would be critical enablers of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). These governance initiatives will play a crucial role in tracking performance against core governance indicators vital to Kenya’s economic transformation.

Subsequently, in his remarks, Amb. Dr. Samori Okwiya, the Chief Executive Officer, NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat stated the primary objectives of the dissemination exercise which include sensitizing county stakeholders to the NGR contents and allowing them to access the outcomes of their public participation contributions. This initiative emphasizes the importance of involving local stakeholders in governance processes and understanding their roles in implementing recommendations.

The first phase of the dissemination covers several counties, including Kajiado, Makueni, Mombasa, Garissa, Murang’a, Embu, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, TransNzoia, Vihiga, Kakamega, and Kisumu.

Kenya’s active participation in the APRM processes and consistent support to its initiatives highlight the country’s leadership in governance assessment on the continent.
