The NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat is currently undertaking a civic education and capacity building exercise on the County Peer Review Mechanism (CPRM) in Lamu County. The exercise aims to create awareness on the CPRM initiative among the LAMU County officials mainly (County Executive Committee Members, Chief Officers and Directors).

 

Ongoing civic education and capacity building exercise on the County Peer Review Mechanism (CPRM) in Lamu County

The CPRM initiative seeks to facilitate experience sharing, identify challenges and build capacity to entrench policies and standards that will accelerate good governance in the county. As a result, the CPRM will improve service delivery by the County Government.

The initiative puts emphasis on the commitments by County Governments to uphold the tenets of good governance in order to accelerate sustainable development and economic growth.

During the civic education session, Mr. Owanga Sebastian Aduong’a, C.E.C.M – Education, reiterated the importance of the initiative to Lamu County and noted that the CPRM self-assessment will enable the County improve service delivery. The C.E.C.M welcomed the Chief Executive Officer, Amb. Dr. Samori Okwiya to give his remarks. The CEO applauded the County Government for acknowledging and accepting to participate in the sensitization and capacity building session. He noted that the CPRM process will enable the county uphold good governance by picking up best practices undertaken by other counties.

The current exercise will run for two days from 3rd – 4th October, 2024 and will conclude with a simulation exercise that will ensure that the County officials are adequately prepared to undertake the CPRM process.
