The NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat has successfully kickstarted dissemination and capacity building on African Union Agenda 2063 in Mombasa County.

Today, 2nd October, 2024 the Secretariat held a capacity building session with officials of The County Government of Mombasa on AU Agenda.The participants included County Executive Committee Members, (CECMs), Chief Officers and Directors . The process is set to inform the officials on the agenda and strategies for mainstreaming into county plans.

Agenda 2063, adopted by the African Union in 2013, outlines a vision for an integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Africa driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena. The Agenda is structured around a 50-year vision, implemented in into ten-year implementation plans to facilitate systematic progress.

The first ten-year implementation plan from 2013-2023, laid the groundwork for achieving key objectives, including promoting inclusive economic growth, enhancing governance, and ensuring environmental sustainability. Additionally, it emphasized the importance of peace and security, gender equality, and regional integration. Specific targets included boosting intra-African trade and improving access to education and health services across the continent.

As the first ten year implementation plan came to a close, focus is on the second ten-year Implementation plan (2024-2033) the acceleration stage which aims to consolidate achievements and tackle emerging challenges. This phase emphasises on technological advancement, sustainable urbanization, and the empowerment of youth and women. The goal is to create a more resilient economy that can withstand global shocks while driving innovation.

During the meeting , officers from Mombasa county led by the CECM Transport and Infrastructure Mr. Daniel Manyala explored how to incorporate these aspirations and goals into the Mombasa County plans, and affirmed their commitment to the Agenda ensuring that local initiatives contribute to the overall vision of a united and prosperous Africa.

The sensitization exercise on Agenda 2063 in Mombasa County underscores the role of counties in realizing Agenda 2063. By equipping CECMs, Chief Officers, and Directors with the knowledge and tools, the Secretariat aims to foster a collaborative environment where county governments can effectively contribute to national and continental goals.
